Description

The Dagda Mor is described as

At a distance, he might have passed for [a man]. He was basically manlike in appearance. He walked upright on two legs, and his arms were only slightly longer than those of a man. He carried himself stooped over, his movement hampered by a peculiar hunching motion--but the dark robes that cloaked him made it difficult to tell the cause. It was only when close that one could see clearly the massive hump that crooked his spine almost double at the shoulders. Or the great tufts of greenish hair that protruded from all parts of his body like saw grass. Or the scales that coated his forearms and lower legs. Or the hands and feet that ended in claws. Or the vaguely catlike muzzle that was his face. Or the eyes, black and shining, deceptively placid on their surface, like twin pools of water that hid something evil and destructive.

-- The Elfstones of Shannara (1982), pp. 8

He is also described as having gleaming hooked teeth, and a hatred that bordered on madness.[1]

The Dagda Mor was chief amongst all the Demons locked away in the Forbidding as he possessed more power than any of the other Demons. How much of the power was a result purely of the Staff of Power that he carried is never revealed.

Origin and History

The Dagda Mor's origins has long since been lost. He was present during the war between good and evil before the birth of the race of man. His presence at the creation of the Ellcrys musthave been close or significant as he had much knowledge about the origin of the Ellcrys and how it was birthed. "Had he not been present when she had first seen life..? ... And he knew that this freedom could still be taken from him. If one of the Chosen were permitted to carry a seed of the tree to the source of her power..."[2]

It is also known that during his time behind the Forbidding only a few demons had tried to defy him. He had broken then and made unpleasant examples of them.[2]
