Arion Elessedil is Eventine Elessedil's eldest son, Crown Prince and heir to the throne of King of the Elves. He was Eventine's pride and joy being a superb athlete an accomplished weapons master, hunter and horseman as well as being of striking resemblance to Eventine at the same age, tall and fair. Additionally Arion had a compelling charisma about himself.[2] Arion tended towards being impatient and reckless, with too little feeling for the needs and ideas of others.
When Arion and Ander were younger they had been close. Their youngest brother, Aine, created a cement between the both of them. When Aine died, their bond of kinship no longer became strong enough for them. Arion became very jealous of Ander when Aine's daughter Amberle went to Ander for support after her father's death rather than him. When Amberle forsook her duty as a Chosen, Arion blamed Ander's influence on her as the reason.[1]

He is the first to notice spotting on the Ellcrys as is not certain what to make of it. During the next morning on the way to greet the tree at sunrise, Jase talks with Lauren about what is bothering him. Lauren confides his belief in the wilt and spotting he saw on the tree, and the concern of the demise of the forbidding. Once at the tree, Jase gives his spot up greet the Ellcrys to Lauren. Upon touching the tree and looking up, he notices a greater extent of wilting and spotting than he had perceived the previous night. Then the Ellcrys touches Lauren first to have him call the Chosen to her, then to tell them all that she is dying and the Forbidding is failing.
Lauren is then picked by the others to tell the Elven King, Eventine Elessedil of the danger to the Ellcrys.[7] Unable to get an audience, he finds the kings son, Ander Elessedil. He convinces Ander of the need to him to see the king. There he tells the two of all that the tree spoke to the Chosen. Afterwards Lauren assists Ander in questioning the Chosen about all that they heard from the Ellcrys. Later that evening Lauren finds and speaks with Ander one last time for the day, relating to him of Amberle's long conversations with the Ellcrys and how that was different than the other Chosen.
In the morning Lauren is found dead by Ander, along with the rest of the Chosen at the hands of the Changeling.[5]
