Arborlon

Arborlon was a large village during the time of the First War of the Races to become a city, full of excitement and expectation, and crossroads to the Westland by the time leading up to the Second War of the Races.[1] The First War of the Races had seen the decline of the Race of Man in the affairs of the world. With this the Elves and the city of Arborlon had taken on an increasingly important role as a major influence in the Four Lands. Yet still during the time of the Second War of the Races, Arborlon was one of the only major Elven cities, with the Sarandanon not yet being populated by Elves in any sizeable numbers.

Valley of Rhenn

The Valley of Rhenn is the western gateway to the Elven city of Arborlon. The eastern end of the Rhenn was inviting being a gentle stretch of grasslands between two clusters of low foothills. Yet the valley quickly narrowed with the floor of it sloping upwards and the foothills rising to become steep bluffs.[2]

By the time you reached the other end, you where looking into the jaws of a vise.

-- First King of Shannara (1996), pp. 115

The Rhenn was chalk full of think forests deep to the North and South. This made the Valley of Rhenn a natural defensive barrier to any major force coming from the East to Arborlon.

Battle for the Rhenn

During the time of the Second War of the Races, the Valley of Rhenn was site of a termendous battle between the Northland army of the Warlock Lord and the forces of the Elven nation as lead by Jerle Shannara.
